Car thief broke into house while owner was home

A Coast resident was at home and awake when a thief stole her car keys and packets of cigarettes from her kitchen bench on Thursday morning.

Beerwah Police officer-in-charge Tully Anderson said the resident of Mellumview Dr, Beerwah discovered someone had entered her home between 3-4am.

Acting Senior Sergeant Anderson said the unknown thief removed two sets of car keys and some cigarettes from the kitchen bench.

“The resident then discovered that their black Kia Cerato had been stolen from the driveway,” he said.

“It is believed that entry was gained through an unlocked front door.

“A reminder to all residents to ensure that your doors are locked and that your garage doors are down.”

The Kia Cerato has the Queensland registration 240TLG.

Anyone with information or any CCTV footage of suspicious activity in the area has been urged to contact Beerwah Police or Crimestoppers.
