Fine photos rewarded

THE gala evening Cocktails in the Gallery on March 16 has ended the Essentially Somerset photographic competition for 2012 in fine style with the selection of the winners.

Winner of the Essentially Somerset main prize, selected from 400 entries by public vote, was "Jacaranda in bloom" by Ben Hamilton.

Mr Hamilton attended the evening and was delighted to be presented with a cheque for $1000 by the Somerset mayor Graeme Lehmann.

Somerset Regional Tourism Association president Dawn Oliver said the competition was evidence of the continuing support the association gave to art and culture in the Somerset Region.

Guests enjoyed a gallery presentation of 110 photographs in the Simeon Lord room at the Esk Library with the opportunity to participate in the final selection of winners.

Entertainment was provided by 3 to Tango classical duet and the magical sleight of hand of Glen Rhodes.

Gourmet tastes of the region were presented by Bellevue Homestead and Vineyard, Coolana Olives, Cormorant Bay Cafe, Esk Bakery, Nash Gallery and Cafe, Pol's at Moore Cafe, Red Deer Cafe Esk, with wine selections and tastings by the Somerset Valley's wineries.
