KLEENMAID: Former director labels sentence excessive

FORMER Kleenmaid director Gary Collyer Armstrong has argued in the Queensland Court of Appeal that his seven-year jail sentence for fraud and insolvent trading was manifestly excessive.

Armstrong, who will not be eligible for parole until February 2018, also argued the sentencing judge erred in not taking all factors into account.

He was jailed after pleading guilty to his role in the collapse of the national whitegoods distributor that was based on the Sunshine Coast.

Most of the appeal hearing occurred in a closed court. The decision was adjourned to a date to be fixed. - ARM NEWSDESK
