WILD WEATHER: Southwest braces for heavy rainfall, damaging winds, hail

SOUTHWEST Queensland can expect to see heavy rainfall, damaging winds and large hail as early as this afternoon.

A Bureau of Meteorology spokeswoman said they’re expecting to see storms developing this afternoon and into the evening.

“There’s a chance of seeing thunderstorms, possibly severe thunderstorms could develop around Roma, St George, up to Emerald and Clermont but generally staying to the west of Toowoomba,” the spokeswoman said.

“They’re like to move east to northeast if they do form.

“If we see severe thunderstorms propagate, they will produce heavy rainfall, damaging winds and large hail.”

The meteorologist said there’s a similar forecast for tomorrow with severe thunderstorms possible that will extend to the east.

“Severe storms are possible and likely between Roma and Dalby,” she said.
